panel moderator Az boy bato
It was a big success for the Comics and Manga Day 2007, and even that there is no such event or day celebration for comics, we had just started a new beginning to have focus about creating comics and the joys of reading it. In line with the Arts and Literature of the month at Powerbooks, Glass House Graphics and Studio Sakka gives a wonderful panel discussion, art show, exhibit and drawing demo to all. As the people says in the event, it was more on an inspirational and motivation panel talks with the artist. Discussing from the life of an artists, from the discipline and values up to the challenges and success from doing a job that they truly love.
There was also a hot topic about Manga and Japanese comics, and still many people are interested in the topic, I opened the topic about hentai, doujinshi comics, the market, about being part of the pop culture, and american style manga. and many more.
The forum was great, I learned a lot from the pros. It was an open forum, so there was interaction between the audience and the speakers. It had also been a while since I talked in front of a large crowd, this time, as a member of the audience. - razekiel.deviantart.com (art professor)
People stayed from 1PM up to 7PM, and they didnt leave even we did a 30 minute break.
total of 60 people attended the event, plus walk in visitors. There were also Koreans who participated in the panels and also big comics readers, fans, artist and collectors who went at the event after attending a toy launch.
then at the end we raffle off Wilson's artwork and also free tickets of the comics seminar
Another round of applause to our pinoy comic artists.
During the event, I promised to them all that next year will be a big Comics and manga Day.
see you all on 2008 :)

Arnold Arre's Andong Agimat - movie !

// wow!! this is a one great news!
'Andong Agimat' to the US film mart
By Bayani San Diego Jr.
Inquirer
MANILA, Philippines -- Unitel head Tony Gloria has a new baby.
"This is my pet project," he says of "Ang Mundo ni Andong Agimat," a popular graphic novel by prize-winning author/illustrator Arnold Arre.
Gloria has acquired the rights to "Andong," which he plans to produce into either a feature film or a TV series. Or both.
"It can start as a feature film and we can later turn it into a TV series," he says.
For the role of Andong, Gloria is eyeing Robin Padilla.
"He's not your typical hero. Andong's a loner and an ex-convict," he explains.
Unitel is preparing an audio-visual presentation on "Andong," which Gloria will screen at the American Film Market, running from Oct. 31 to Nov. 7 in Santa Monica, California.
It's Unitel's fourth time in the US film mart. "We scanned and colorized the storyboards. We edited and set the footage to music. We also gave it a 3-D title," he says.
He hopes to attract investors—to finance or to co-produce—with the "Andong" teaser.
Gloria admits that producing "Andong" is expensive.
"You can't do it with P20 million. If I had P50 million that would be ideal. But I can make it with P30 million to P35 million," he says.

A 24-PAGE COMIC BOOK (WITH A TWIST) IN JUST 24 HOURS?
SEE IT TO BELIEVE IT!
Ask graphic artists Jamie Bautista and Elbert Or, creators of the hit comic series Cast, what would give them a really big kick this Halloween and you'll most likely get this response: Creating a 24-page comic book in 24 straight hours.
Believe it or not, these young, fearless artists are psyching themselves up for more than 24 sleepless hours as they take on the 1st Philippine 24-Hour Comic Book Challenge, which will take place on October 28 to 29, 2005, at Coco Aroma, White Beach, Puerto Galera.
Inspired by the 24 Hour Comics Day of Scott McCloud, a leading comic book theoretician in the United States, the 1st Philippine 24-Hour Comic Book Challenge will fuse creative visual storytelling with indigenous Philippine martial arts and folklore to give Pinoy audiences a different kind of visual experience. During this event, Bautista and Or will capture different fighting poses and techniques inspired by kali and arnis, the Philippines's own martial arts, and will attempt to create compelling stories that will capture the grace, the strength, and the valor of Filipino warriors.
It won't be their first time to touch on themes of Philippine history, culture, and heritage. The graphic anthology Siglo: Freedom, which won the 2004 National Book Award for Comic Book, and on which Bautista and Or collaborated with renowned writers and comic book artists Gerry Alanguilan, Dean Francis Alfar, Nikki Alfar, Arnold Arre, Jason Banico, Marco Dimaano, Andrew Drilon, Honoel Ibardolaza, Lan Medina, Vin Simbulan and Carlo Vergara, captured stories of life, love, and the struggle for emancipation set in each decade of the 20th century.
The 1st Philippine 24-Hour Comic Book Challenge, however, is even more demanding than the pair's previous projects because it requires them to produce credible work on an aspect of Philippine heritage which has not been sufficiently documented in the past.
Paul Zialcita, an arnis practitioner and a musician who has been advocating the integration of Philippine indigenous martial arts and folklore into mainstream media, hopes that this first attempt to create kali -and arnis-inspired art will pave the way for more creative collaborations. He lends his percussive power to the 1st Philippine 24-Hour Comic Book Challenge by marking the hours with a Kali Drum, a large instrument made of a recycled garbage can and cowhide that is played using arnis strikes.
Aside from Zialcita, more local and foreign martial arts enthusiasts, visual artists, and comic book fans will join Bautista and Or on the shores of White Beach, Puerto Galera to learn and to demonstrate new fighting techniques, to create their own versions of martial arts-inspired art, or simply to enjoy Puerto Galera's emerald-green waters.
Interested to join in the fun but not quite confident with your artistic or fighting skills? Don't worry: Bautista and Or will kick off the 1st Philippine 24-Hour Comic Book Challenge with a FREE comic book workshop. Meanwhile, Zialcita's team of local warriors will be patrolling White Beach's shores, all game to teach novices a thing or two about responsible stick-fighting.
The 1st Philippine 24-Hour Comic Book Challenge is made possible by the collaboration of Likha Communications Consulting, Nautilus Comics, Digipost, and Coco Aroma. Email Niña Terol of Likha Communications Consulting at nterol.likhacommunications@gmail.com , or call (0917) 644 45 66, for details.

Aside from having an S.M. or shop-in-the-mall. We also have sort of roving stall. We place our goods in a 1972 Kombi van and go to big gigs in the metropolis with our merchandise. With this venture we, together with other local alternative/indie merchandize will be exposed to a bigger but more specialized market.
P.S. With our recent venture into local independent cd/merchandise consignment ( or what we call "The
Indie Lab") we are slowly evolving into small music shop that carries independent cds and merchandize from local artists/bands/groups. With your support and participation no doubt it would greatly help both of us in propmoting the local filipino music scene.
